Stikine River

Hi all,

Thought I'd try something a bit different today, in the way of posting my trips.

I fancied throwing in the charts I use to make most of my VFR journeys around Ketchikan, unfortunately, in order to get the charts readable, it had to be split into 3 pictures - but nevermind, I've posted some more shots in the Heading South thread.

This was a short trip I made this morning, departing Sh*t Creek & heading north, just following the Stikine River up to a little settlement just below Telegraph Creek.

Heading north on a crisp clear day - perfect for bush IFR:






Just heading downwind of the settlement. After I stop here I shall be heading south back down the Stikine River to call in at a little hamlet named 'Scud':

A man after my own heart... that's real sim-navigation, not that stupid Map.

A real chart-especially in such an area- just adds more excitement and flavor to the flight, aside from making you think about what you're doing.

very cool! I like to use maps myself too, but in the Alps. Gives lots of extra fun!

Great stuff Martyn! I love it ... you really made me think about using a map in the tour.
Funny how these kinds of posts seem to attract the real aviators amongst us (you, Sean, Brett) and leave 'the kids' out.

I've always been a fan of your bush flying tours ... it's what made me get into bush flying in the first place

their is also some very very very good freeware scenery for some research outposts that have airstrips, near where you have been flying

That must be SIRP, the Stikine Icefield Research Program. Indeed an excellent package but I think it was Martyn himself that first showed us that package ...

Thanks Harold, it's always nice to hear things like that. Admittedly I don't post hardly any shots these days, but it's always nice to see people like yourself post fantastic threads & tours. The research & information presented in your Pacific Coast Tour has raised the bar somewhat.

Well I don't know if I can lay claim to bringing SIRP to the attention of most of us here at SimV, I think I probably just forwarded the link from BFU - along with a few shots.
