VSX whistlestop 'tour' - DRY

Postby krigl » Sun Feb 24, 2008 5:37 pm

I've just installed Voz Scenery X in preparation for FTX, due any day.

VSX is freeware, and so is the 'alternative' to FTX for the ultra-skint and the 'payware over my dead body' die hards. It's a kind of 'successor to VOZ for FSX' but without textures (as far as I can make out_ - it just seems to reorganize existing FSX textures with new landclass, and port old VOZ airfields into FSX. Once FTX comes out then VSX will complement it by integrating their freeware airfields into FTX.

I thought that, given the fact that FTX is not quite out yet, it might be interesting to look at some of the locations I've seen in VOZ and see how they are in VSX. Maybe some of you guys will be interested too... if not, well...sorry

No. VSX is freeware and is by those people who made VOZ that have 'moved on' to FSX, yet are not designing professionally with Orbx.

FTX (Full Terrain X) is payware, produced by a team involving Holger Sandmann and headed by John "Koorby" Venema, the guy who started off VOZ freeware for FS9. Before that he worked on BirdsEyeView, and now he's back in the payware scene.

If you are not interested in the payware FTX then VSX is the way to go for freeware Australian scenery in FSX. But if anyone is interested in Australian flying, or in payware addons that dramatically transform and improve FSX, they are rather likely to get FTX.  :)

If you want FTX payware, then VSX will complement it, as FTX will not contain airport scenery (though there will be freeware packs released for it) so if you don't want to buy Orbx payware airports then you can use VSX freeware alternatives.

Cheers

Krigl

Oh......D'oh!!  ::)

I'm really sorry! It gets so confusing with all these three-word acronyms made up of Vs, Gs, Es, Fs, Ts, Ss and Xs.... I've corrected the errors. There's no VTX....yet.  :)
