A sad goodbye...

Postby krigl » Sat Feb 02, 2008 7:19 pm

...to the Accelleration datadisk.

Flying the Hornet and the EH101 was great...

But constant whiteouts with any non-default plane took all the fun out of flying in FSX - default planes look great but after a while I began to long for the buzz of downloading something new...

Image

Updating drivers had little effect on the problem, add-on planes had cockpit whiteouts below the visibility layer, and external view whiteouts above it...

...there may be a fix somewhere or other, somehow, somewhen, but I just want to be able to use my sim, tired of looking for fixes for what Aces break. So a farewell to two great aircraft, and to the dubious benifits of SP2 - hopefully I won't need SP2 for something in the future

some of the things you are describing, sound like they could be solved with a little more power... maybe turn of that ugly bloom effect and reap the benefits!

Why don't you find the files that you want to keep on the Acceleration disk and install manualy them without running the setup.exe.

Now that's a different view of things ...

I don't run FSX but from what I've heard and seen I used to think that SP2 and Acceleration were good things. Peculiar to hear you don't agree.

I'm with J. on the power issue ... the reason I don't run FSX :-[

Still I love the second shot! Those clouds are amongst the best I've seen; especially the ones in the top of the shot. But the bloom (I've never liked it) ruins it for me and it indeed looks like a whiteout.

The angle on the hornet is nothing very special but in relation to the horizon it is really clever. A bit like Tom would do but he'd zoom out more ...

Thanks! The bloom effect in pic 3 is not an illustration of the 'whiteout' effect, with the whiteout you can't see anything! I like the bloom effect actually, each to their own - bright sunlight does kind of look like that, and it looks better than just a yellow disc, to me anyway.

Accelleration is like FSX - different people/machines have different problems. I gave up trying to solve mine and went for the easy solution of uninstalling as I really don't have a lot of time on my hands - and so many games+sims to enjoy - basically I'm only losing 3 planes (even if they are good) and some missions and racing scenery. And the good news is I can just reinstall it if I really feel the urge to use them again in the future, as Acc uninstalls cleanly without seemingly harming the rest of the sim.
