Correct me if i'm wrong, but if you were to upload them as 800 x 600, you wouldn't have to lower the quality as much...?

you would be surprised. i actually tried that but the compression number was about the same. uncompressed at 800x600 they would have been around 500K a shot

Scenic shots like yours usually tend to get very grainy when you compress them to comply with the forum's regulations ... sad but true.

But maybe you can share how you compress and resize? Let's see if there's a solution ...

i use photoshop CS3 and i used FSScreen which saves as a bmp. i put the bmp into CS3 and crop the second monitor out and resize it through Image ->Image Size. then i save as a jpeg and move the slider over untill it meets the forum specs. (wouldnt it just be easier to link the images to lighten the load on the SimV servers?) these were about 7-8 out of 12 compresion levels (12 being highest quality)

Lush shots mate, love the clouds and that mesh looks great  :)

As for compressing, on CS3 if you go into Save For Web you can optimize them i bit better ( ie be more specific the 1-12) ... lots of ways of adjusting them, but it really helps. Sometimes though its gonnna be impossible!

Hotlinking the images would create more traffic between websites than Pete would want to pay for. It's all about bandwidth and that is what you pay for.

A typical web server can EASILY handle things like these forums.

Cobra's tips are really very good. I think that everybody using Photoshop uses these or at least should use them to get optimal results.
