Boeing has completed the final assembly of its first 787, which was rolled out at a ceremony on July 8, 2007 (7-8-07, in the usual U.S. date order). The first test flights are not on a fixed schedule but are expected in September 2007.

Sweet bird ... in real life. Unfortunately this is not a very good model, especially the wing flex in #4.
Is that the Abacus 787?

It has only just came out so no designers know what it looks like yet. You may have to wait about a year or so.

Because of the info i've read on this plane(i work as an aerospace engineer for Bombardier now), i could say that Boeing will get in big trouble in the future with the 787, but anyways nice shots mate.

sorry mate i can't really go into specific (internal rule) but it's not a safety problem, it's with the manufacturing supplies for the plane.

as i told you before, it's not the question of safety (i'm pretty much sure that 787 is one of the safest planes out there) but the question of getting the resources to build and maintain it. Statistically speaking, Boeing have enough resources to build them, but when the time comes to maintain or repair failed parts then the problem will come up.

I know that they are working right now to fix this (they built an entire fiber glass plant just for them right near the plant where 787 are builded but it's only can supply the production line and not maintenance and repairing.

So as i said before, there is no safety issues with the plane (atleast known ones) but with the supplies.

Sorry I have a hard time believing that Boeing would build an aircraft they couldn't support  It would be like buying a car and when it was time for a brake job the automotive tech tells you sorry they don't make brakes for your car. Sounds like industry gossip to me.

well that's up to you, my department work on this problem (some of the seniors have relations with boeing) and i've read this in the document. But i won't try to prove nothing, just saying what i learned and wheater you agree with me or not, simply have no difference to me.

Well from what you are saying Boeing hasn't ramped up the resources to repair these craft. If this is true it sounds like they are taking a risk if sales are hot I bet the resources will be there. Whats scary is if sales are junk?? Ill fly airbus if thats the case. "Look is that duct tape on the wing?"

ok just to clarify one thing, when you launch a new programm (wheater boeing, airbus, bombardier,embraer,etc) you always take risks and compromises. So this one is like every other programms that were launched.

Bombardier gonna take risks when the finally gonna launch the CSERIES, it can blow the competition out of the sky or back fire in our faces.

So to sun this, everyone take risks in aerospace (there is no sure thing)

The problem with thr 787 is that the huge use of composites have not been used in such a scale on a large airliner ever before. Carbon fiber which makes up 50% of the 787 by weight, is unlike metal, it does not visibly show cracks and fatigue and repairing any damage done to the aircraft would not be easy.

Boeing has started the goldcare program which is a comprehensive life-cycle management service whereby aircraft in the program are routinely monitored and repaired as needed. New maintainence techniques are in existance too.

Another problem is the first six airframes are going to be overweight. The seventh is on target.
