Pacific Coast Tour #9: Alaska Leftovers

Postby Harold » Mon Mar 12, 2007 4:19 pm

continued from part 8

Moving further up the Alaskan Peninsula

Pretty sunny 8-)

Moving over Mount Aniakchak. The crater is an ice-free, circular caldera which is about 10 km in diameter
and can reach depths of over a 1 kilometer! You can clearly see Vent Mountain in the middle of the crater ...

The area around the volcano is the Aniakchak National Monument and Preserve, maintained by the National Park Service,
the same institute that designated the Aniakchak Caldera as a National Natural Landmark in November of 1967.

Leavin the Yantarni Volcano behind me and setting course for Kodiak.

Yantarni Volcano is an andesitic stratovolcano and was not discovered until 1979 (!!) due to its remote location, lack of
documented historic activity and its rather modest summit elevation. The mountain was named after nearby Yantarni Bay,
which in turn was named by Russian explorers after the abundance of yantar in the area.

The weather is not getting any better ...

and it even started snowing ... just my luck!

These are stunning screens again, I particularly love the third! The information is also really interesting to read, and I hope you keep it up! People do tend to stop replying to tours after a while.... then it comes down to just how much you can be bothered to keep posting stuff which takes hours to make and post when no one shows any interest - just 'click', and move on

Those clouds look really nice. What clouds are they?

Same in Studio V, only a few people complete in the comps - and particularly the Judge's Choice is different every week, and the winner get's to make the next comp. Sounds great to me!

I will try to make an entry this current Judges Choice. To be honest I never really paid any attention to it, but I will try my best to enter.

Harold, you can serve me leftovers like this any day!
I like #1 and 3 best, a bit of topography always gives an extra dimension I think.
Great stuff, I can only hope that you'll keep going.
