memories of home....my dad flew for Avianca for a while, then he went to Helicol and flew for the Santodomingo Group (ask your buddy, he'll know what im talking about)
avianca is the second oldest airline in the world (after KLM) and during WWII it was spyed on by the allies as Avianca was a Colombo-German business, two (or three) of the founders of the airline were german flyers, the oyrther guys were colombian...it used to be called SCADTA (stood for Sociedad Colombo-Alemana De Transporte Aereo) and then in the 40's it changed the name to Avianca, now it's Alianza Summa i think...which is a mix of SAM, Avianca and a couple other airlines...
