Tour of Budapest

Postby ozzy72 » Tue Jun 06, 2006 4:06 pm

Well I'm finally getting my system back up to speed and all the scenery re-installed! So here is a quick run around darkest Budapest (courtesy of Lago)...

Nice  :)
I was in Budapest in may 1989 (or was it april?), there were red flags and military parades all around, it was I believe some national celebration? We had a great stay there (4 days in the top-class Hotel Hungaria... is it still around?). I do remember the crazy taxi drivers (to say the least) driving like mad around town with their Ladas and Wartburgs. We used to hop up and down those taxis, they were so cheap compared to ours! Well, one must have taken into account risking his life  :D

Ahh the First of May, now known as Workers Day and still a national holiday... and yup the taxi drivers are still nutters! Although now in faster cars ;)

I'm under the impression that it wasnt May 1st, because that is celebrated in my country too, and I remember that me and my classmates didn't know what kind of celebration was taking place. But then again, my memory could be failing on me, it's been almost 20 years!  ;D

I've checked with the missus and she says the only time things like that would have happened would have been the 1st of May ;)
