FS98 Concorde SST

Postby cheesegrater » Sat Jan 28, 2006 9:54 pm

I got this add-on free for signing up to a flightsim newsletter. Yep, thats how great the community was in the days of FS98 - free paywere addons.

I saved it on a CD-RW like I did all my downloaded stuff, however once I upgraded my computer for some reason I couldn't access the files on the CD. Today I tried a program to recover "lost" data and I was reunited with this great add-on!

A hardcore analog panel at 52000 feet and Mach 2. A cool feature is that when you lower the nose the visor disappears out of the 2D panel.

A lot of work has been put into the flight dynamics. Many aircraft in FS98 have seizures when flown this fast. The aircraft is stable at all altitudes and speeds - hand flown or autopilot. The flight dynamics were tested by a Concorde pilot. To create accurate flight dynamics for FS98 is truly an art. I missed this add-on for a few years.

Damn...I've completely forgotten how rotten the graphics were for FS98  8)
But hey, it's nostalgia and retro  ;D

And to think we all marveled at this scenery once :D

Still, a great flight sim nonetheless, and cool shots of a freepayware aircraft! ;D

That must have seemed AWSOME in '98! Mind you, the panel is a very good effort for the time.

Compared to X-Plane 7 I think FS98 scenery has more accurate airport and building placement. X-Plane 7 scenery is really random - there are buildings on the water, airports located on water (even the major ones such as KJFK). X-Plane 7 has more accurate terrain however, the things that are placed on the terrain are very random. For example a mountain has a lake texture, a runway has a helipad and a radio tower in the middle of it. Also most of the airports in X-Plane have no buildings. I want to fly, not edit scenery. FS98 graphics may be poor by today's standards but at least most of the stuff appears where it is supposed to be.

X-Plane 8 has much updated scenery though.

Wow, looks really hardcore....I bet back in those days "flying to take screenshots" didn't really exist as a hobby.... the people who flew were all serious sim pilots...

Nicely composed shots, and an interesting post, thanks!!
