LIRF it up, fuzzball!

Part 4 of Another Pointless Krigl Story tm.

If you want to read the whole set, for whatever warped reason, it starts here, just follow the links through....

'Ok guys, lets do it', I said, and took control. I'd put my Biggles goggles and scarf on especially for this, the end of my first ever flight across the pond...

Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation was in the CD player and started Rain King.... Immediately, my head started nodding aggressively to the insistent pounding beat, and I got to my feet to get a decent view over all those dials and switches.

And down we went, me standing and grasping the yoke like a a steersman at the capstan of a storm lashed galleon...

"Isn't that Rome Fiumicino down there, Brian?"

"Yep, one of the greatest freeware airports...though maybe Logan's raised the bar..."

By listening to the whistling wind, looking at the ground rising fast to meet me, and occasional glances at the guages I knew we were going a bit too fast...

"Hold on, it's going to be rough!"

Boiiiinnnngggg!!!!

Image

After the Star Trek Warp Factor 12 shaking had stopped and we'd reached a civilized kind of speed it was time to take stock of the situation, using the special Worlds Least Serious Pilots after-landing checklist.

"Well, we're still alive. Flight engineer, can you go out back and do a head count of the passengers?"

Image

"No one fell out, sir, and all heads present and connected."

Image

LIRF's almost iconic red and white checkered tower was a sight we were glad to see as we taxiied to parking.

Image

I left Brian going through the last formalities and stuff and went out back do do a victory lap through the cabins and see if I could get any tips in first class...

Image

I was surprised to find the 1st and business class populated with heads of state and historic figures such as Albert Einstein, Mussolini, Oprah and the like, while the tourist sections featured the entire casts of Cheers, Different Strokes, Seinfeld and other serials... more of Isadora's downloads I suppose... ::)

It had been an interesting flight, but not half as interesting as my evening with Isadora at one airport hotel.... she really knew her way around the internet....

Nope, though I'm sure it's great.... it's the freeware ISD Project version of LIRF, they've done other Italian airports too, I've just downloaded Milan Malpensa, also pretty cool....traffic, airport vehicles, gates which move, de-icers....

...probably on SimV, definately on Av*** :)

I think I'll try to get an exemption for you to post payware in the freeware section...or I guess I could spend a bit more time in this forum. It's always a treat to read your stories K. This one being no exception. pretty nice looking aircraft as well.... :)
