2 Classics over Yorkshire

Postby C » Fri Jun 03, 2005 5:34 pm

First of all, Alphasims Handley Page Halifax, up early at dawn over Yorkshire, the county with which this bomber was most associated. Sortie flown from Burn, a former Halifax base...

No words needed for these two

...and secondly, the Real Air Sim Spit (again), causing a crowd at Breighton, home of the Real Aeroplane Co...

Taxiing out

Coming in over the airfield. Looking at the top it's far too slow and far too high! ;D

Nice overview showing the modern airfield on the edge of the old bomber base. Note the ICBM pads too, attached to the former runways

Enjoy...

Very Nice Charlie...Great aeroplane the "Halibag" Halifax ;)

There is one almost restored at the Royal Canadian Air Force Memorial Museum at Canadian Forces Base Trenton, Ontario, Canada.

There is a second Halifax soon to be raised and restored. :)

The Royal Canadian Air Force had more Handley Page Halifax Bomber Squadrons than Avro Lancaster Squadrons as they found it a much better aircraft.
Of course a Lancaster jockey would argue that one. :)

The RCAF tried the Boeing B17 and used it to carry mail from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada to England during the war.  The RCAF also used the Consolidated B24 and upgraded it for service use.

The favorites here were the Halifax and Lancaster.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!
