Dreamfleet 727-200 Cargo

Postby Nexus » Thu Jan 13, 2005 11:36 pm

As you know, the 'ol 727 is basically non-existant as a PAX airliner, however this old workhorse is still very suitable for cargo runs  :D
Below are some shots from a rather short hop between LHR - HAM.
Due to the jurassic equipment onboard, navigation was done solely by radio navaids (No INS yet). This prevents me from flying the RNAV procedures into the european airports and I always get last in line  :(    ;D

Wing view :) One of over 20 different view options for the 727 (panels included)

Into the soup, just check the WXR, light precipation. Cleared right downwind for ILS 23, will report back when passing 5.000 The sharp eyed will notice I have "forgotten" to setup the FD according to the AP...but hey I'm just ONE guy here, gimme a break  :D

Crossing the threshold on 23, speed is 125KIAS as we are rather light today  :)

You wanna bet those hair dryers are stage 3 certified?  8)

I really like this package. Light years away from the FMC/Advanced autopilot aircrafts I usually fly, but these sort of aircrafts are appealing to me in a strange way.
You have to really fly this bird, and pay great attention of how you set up the AP for engagement or it won't engage at all. Then add the FE panels and you got more than you can handle (the manual even state you should pause the sim in order to turn all the knobs and switches)  :)
The Dreamfleet 727 also comes with an EFIS upgraded aircraft (EADI/EHSI with map mode etc) which probably will attract a few buyers aswell. In real life I believe UPS apparantly upgraded to EFIS cockpits.

Junior, the first members of the 737 family (100/200 series) shared some 60% commonality with the 727, so no...it's not a coincidence  :)
Speaking of the 737, The comonality factor is also one of the reasons the 737 was able to edge the DC9.
The Douglas model was offered with a 5 abreast cabin layout, whereas Boeing, which used the same fuselage cross section as the 707/727 could offer the airlines a 6-abreast configuration.  :)
