Bingo! We have a winner! Now THAT's art, m8!  :)

I really like the direction that you're going in with this one! Much more subtle and more emotional content. Those things are part of the "magic"!  ;)

Oh yeah. One more thing. This is a great example of "less is more". That approach can give an image a lot of impact!  8-)

By all means, M8, don't limit yourself. However, this type of image is, IMHO, at a higher level. It's harder to do well because:

1) There is less to work with so how you handle each element becomes more important.

2) You can't rely upon "the usual tricks of the trade". You know, strong burn and dodge for drama and high color for the "wow" factor.

Working with a low key image yet still having appropriate and effective highlight and shadow is a challenge but well worth the effort, IMHO.  ;)

BTW, was the precipitation in the image or did you add it by hand?

I love that shot, no doubt! However, (and I realize at this point that I will receive some serious flack from this question) I am not exactly sure of what the edit is. Perhaps that is why it's so good; that fact that I can't tell! But I do know I like it! As you know by now it is easy to spot my edits as they are either distorted or almost cartoon like with regards to color and subject matter.

Please don't hit me to hard because I'm seriously curious, but what was done to this image? Is that plane clipped from another image or something?

No disrespect!

it looks great!! the only minor thing i can see is that its a very high quality plane, and the background not so much. but its not an important matter because it still looks cool. i have the same problem. just a suggestion would be to darken the plane a little bit and the lighting in the background is from the right and on the plane its on the top. but don't listen to me i'm not the one to tell you what to do because i haven't been editing for very long!!

Hee heeeeeeeee! I'd say that DEFINITELY disqualifies it for the "Freeware Screenshots" forum!  ;D

You know, the better the initial capture the less obvious editing is required. That holds true for both edited screenies and for planes cut for use in composites. Yeah, you could make a capture with the light coming from behind and edit it so it looks like the light is coming from the front. The question is why in the heck would you want to do that, hee, hee!  ;D

Get it as close a possible in the initial capture and then enhance it to make it look better!  ;)

Well, its not a composite so the lighting from the right is due to an opening in the clouds. The lighting must be right unless its wrong in the sim.
To answer your question FlyBajan, I used some dodge and burn, messed with the levels, saturation, brightness, contrast, added a blue photo filter, cropped off the bottom, and added the prop.

Yes, again I do like the look allot. So realistic! I normally use perfect weather skies but I think I should try some adverse weather pano edits as well!! ;D

All I have to say is: 1. very nice edit! and 2. why would you think the light is coming from the right?
