I like this one a lot.  Cool angle, looking up at a plane taking off.  Maybe include a little more of that tree (if the original image is larger) so it's more obvious that the viewer is standing on the ground.  To me it looks like you got lighting spot on and it blends very well even though the plane stands out with those bright colors.  Very well done.

on the contrary - i did that on purpose. i gives a more "camera photo" feeling. getting all of the aircraft on the image would make it look unrealistic

He has a point Sytse....about 80% of the photos I take of aircraft have bits chopped off

Nice use of color! Dominant colors on the subject with recessive colors as a background usually makes for a dramatic image!  :)

Clipping parts of the plane is neither inherently good nor inherently bad. The question is why it was done and does it achieve the desired effect and enhance the image. You have a clear reason for why you did it. That primarily leaves the question of whether or not it enhances the image or detracts from it. Obviously, that is an entirely subjective judgement and not everyone is going to be in agreement. However, it is not necessary that everyone be in agreement!  ;)

My own subjective opinion is that that it detracts from the image in this case, but who am I? I'm just another viewer like everyone else with a subjective opinion.  :)

For me, unfettered creativity is much more important than following a rigid set of rules.  You are the author. It's your image, Jazzcool. If you like to make your images this way then don't allow anything to sway you! I see it as important to stick to your vision lest everything you make be designed solely to receive the approval of others. As an image maker, you have to be true to yourself or you have nothing.  You have to be authentic and stick to your own unique vision or your images will lack soul. Follow what YOU feel is good!  8-)

well Harry, thanks for that.
i do really like to hear what others think, thats why i post those images on the web. sometimes i myself dont like the image taken, and would be the first to admit that its shitty. on those cases, i really post in order to get ideas how to tweak and fix and change.  just like in the post here that almost no one seems to reply.  :(  (the composition is very bad, the 3D ruins the picture..)

on other occasions while i think the picture is just perfect as it can be, yet ppl do have a sharp and judging eye of criticism, that sometime make me  think -- hey this dude really got a point there! so on any case, other's saying counts for me.

me - speaking Hebrew as my native tongue, i also post images on a forum in Heb. lets say that that forum members are mostly kids (me being one of the older members) and replies varies mostly from the -- "WOW i like it"  to a - "this is picture makes me sick".  :P
now there is a criticism and there is a contractive criticism
   --- this forum's replies are mostly contractive criticism while the other one is certainly not!! so i think i can take what others think and say. i appreciate it.

so much for freedom of speech.

Hee heeeee! It's impossible to please everyone all of the time. I think that your approach is a good one. Take what seems to be reasonable and useful and leave the rest. There will always be those who rag on your work either because that's what they enjoy doing or because they are envious. It takes discrimination to separate the wheat from the chaff!  ;)
