Where did 'emil' come from? Was it some sort of codename the allied pilots gave the 109?

It was a name given to the E models by German Pilots.

Well, you learn something everyday..  Beauty of a pic Harry, the B&W really works well with this, not just that either the lighting sends ones eyes to the right place in the shot.  You have full understanding of that and it's good to see.
