Very very sharp edit... the head blur looks ok to my untrained eye

IMO you used way to much ocean ripple and you should use guassian blur on it as well. Check out this tutorial for good hints ;)

Good job for a first try...but yes you should definately use more gaussian blur ;).

Very good heat blur for a first try, agree with the above comments. That's a lovely paint job! And you  got a red plane to look sharp and crisp, without compression problems. Very nice work!
