Second try: Much better Heat Blur!

Postby Isak922 » Tue Mar 27, 2007 7:01 pm

First off, Thanks to Cloud9flyer for showing me a much better tutorial  ;D

Original:

First Edit (Attempt): Followed tutorial exactly as shown.

Image

Second Edit (Attempt): Played with the Ocean Ripple magnitude setting to create a more three dimensional look to the blur...

Image

Second Edit (Attempt) Take 2: Decided that the Ripple in the above shot was a tad too much, so I dumbed it down a bit with the blur tool. Otherwise, exactly the same.

Here are the un-compressed 800x600 shots (Taken in 1152x864 then resized to 800x600), as well as the real aircraft/picture I tried to use as a model.

Not bad, but I would suggest making it even a bit less obvious.  Have a look here at these two of mine:

I think that you've got the ocean ripple pretty well, but I'd suggest adding some gaussian blur after you do the ripple just to soften it a little...makes it look better.  Then use the blur tool with a hardness of about 20-30 and go over the edges so they don't stop so suddenly...you want them to blend with the environment.

Hope that helps ;).

Sgt. Gabe IMO thats still to much but that's the creators choice. :P

Isak, that first attempt is beautiful with maybe a little less guasian blur. Also try and flatten it out to make it look like it just took off (if you want i can do another pic like the other thread). That's my only critisism ;D ;)
