Next A380 customers

Postby chornedsnorkack » Sat Apr 05, 2008 8:53 am

Who are the next airlines to get Airbus A380-800?

Singapore has 3 frames in service. 003, 005, 006.

When do they get the fourth, 008? They need it by 20th of May when Narita flights begin.

When does the first Qantas frame arrive?

When does the first Emirates (and Engine Alliance) frame arrive?

Malaysia delayed their planes to 2011. Then who are next?

China Southern?
Air France?
Lufthansa?

Last I heard BA were not planning on puchasing any A-380's. Is this true?

No. BA ordered 12 late last year and have options on 7 others, deliveries to commence in 2012. At the same time they also ordered 24 787's, deliveries to commence in 2010. With the 787's continued problems, and delayed first flight I suspect these will probably commence about the same time.

I was going to say I thought it wierd that BA would not order any. 2012 is a long time away though. I shall be 19 or even 20 then.

Also, BA waited a long time before ordering. Maybe they waited to see how the flight tests went, maybe they waited how 747-800 does.

The orderbook by EIS now goes like this:

(as posted above: 2007 Singapore, 2008 Emirates and Qantas, 2009 Air France, China Southern and Lufthansa)

2010: Kingfisher (not sure whether themselves or Deccan), Korean, Thai, Prince Al-Walid, Aerolineas Argentinas, Air Comet

2011: Malaysia

2012: British Airways, Qatar Airways

2013: Etihad, ILFC, Virgin.

They effectively waited to see it enter service with SIA. I suppose another factor was the fact that up to now, BA's long haul fleet has been Boeing based.

They did not see it - they ordered it a month before EIS.

The only orders since SIA EIS have been Emirates followup order of 11 frames, Prince Al-Walid

Hence the use of the word effectively... ;) :)

I dare say A380 customers are a little less worried than the 787's order book. :-?

I read a book on all the modern day airplanes and it said the A380 was Europes big jet.
You probally wont see alot of U.S. airlines having one but I bet we will with the Boeing 700 whenever thats planed on being built or released.
