According to the promotional stuff, both. They're naming it after the P-38 for the US and the EE Lightning for the RAF/RN. All very cunning, except that the RAF had one or two Lightnings on trial in WWII and there were also recorded occasions of them being operated by RAF crews in WWII too...

So it'll be the Lightning III in British service then. As they're trying to compare it to the EE Lightning do you suppose that the RAF will treat it as they did the P38. And christen them Castrated Lightnings. ;D

Why not call it the F35JSF? Easier to say than F35 Lightning (II)III

I actually think it's a pretty good name for the F-35, but I think it will still commonly be called the F-35, oh well. ;)

I am not a big fan of the name, but it is good for an official name.  I guarantee it will have a seperate nickname, just like the A-10 (Official=Thunderbolt II, Not official=Warthog)
