Brand new Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter(photos!)

Postby StrutterGunner » Sun Oct 31, 2004 2:17 pm

Just thought Id spread the word about a brand new replica Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter that we built at the Great War Flying Museum in Ontario, Canada.  Here are some photos of it at our Fly-in on Sept. 12th, 2004. It will also being attending several airshows in the U.S. next year, including Geneseo.

We also have a Fokker D.VII, S.E.5a, two Fokker Triplanes, Nieuport 28, and a 7/8 scale S.E.5a. Also under construction is a sopwith Camel which should be flying by next year with any luck.

Do the dive brakes tilt UP or Down?

Very nice she looks too. Thanks. ;)

Shame it's not likely I'll get to see this fine machine.

Hi StrutterGunner...very nice...very nice :)

Are they out of Ottawa?

Hope there is an appearance at the Canadian Armed Forces Base Trenton this year for the Airshow.  I do believe there were several here a couple of years ago. :)

I do remember seeing a Bristol F2B but not sure where it was from.

Those are Real Aircraft ;D ;D ;DLOL

Thanks for posting them and any shots of cockpits would be most welcome ;)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Kermit Weeks "Fantasy of Flight" has a real one - pending restoration.

Yes, I was lucky enough to see that Strutter in person at Fantasy of Flight several weeks ago. I had to crawl under four or five fuselages to get to it though  ::) It is in pretty rough shape and will be a lengthy restoration. Basicly just the fuselage and engine. I didnt see any wings or the tail feathers, although they could have been hidden somewhere else.

The dive brakes/flaps -- up or down?  (Modelling question, really - I haven't seen a source to tell me which way...)

Our Strutter doesnt have air brakes, but seeing as how they were situated on the wing roots in the originals I would imagine that they go down.

Thanks - at least I modelled them that way in my single seater Strutters...
