I myself would probably like to come in May for The Great Vintage Flying Weekend, however I think that it might be a bit chilly still and I am bringing some of the family I hope. (looked at the site and everyone was wearing jackets and the weather was poor according to the write up.)  Now the month of August looks promising for the Woburn Abbey International Moth Rally.  I would guess the weather would be a lot better to.
I am an old aircraft lover so I know May would be more informative and enjoyable for me but not the family.

Who knows a lot can happen in a year....heck it only took me six months of convincing we could build our own aircraft.  I think she misses the freedom of ownership but not ready to admit it yet.  MAYBE I can convince everyone two weeks in England in May would be good for me.....not bloody likely eh!
Well have to try another site for my lost amphib...chat with you later .

Would there be a lot more homebuilts or kits at the G-VFWE than any other show let's say during the summer months?  I am considering May as a late Spring early Summer month.  Also we may try travelling by rail...does that sound feasible?

On second thoughts G-VFWE might not be such a good idea for the family. It's not a display, simply a fly-in with an opportunity to have a good look round the aircraft & take photos. The aircraft are mainly vintage types, not home-builts or microlights. I haven't been to the Moth Club rally but assume that's much the same. The home-builders & microlight enthusiasts have their own organisations which I don't know much about.

As for the weather, that's a matter of luck. It varies in different parts of the country & can change throughout the day. Last summer was exceptional with record temperatures & clear blue skies for months on end. The good weather lasted into November with very little rain. I have no idea what this year will be like & wouldn't dare to recommend the best time to visit.

Have looked at all photo's from friends...can not seem to find one of this aircraft....please feel free to leave me some ideas where else to look...Have a line on the VW powerplant...my contact has two...both new and still crated!!!!I only need one but they are a good deal.

Well just got back from talking with some very interesting folks at the Brampton Airport near Toronto, Ontario.  I thought I had a lead on this aircraft from one gentleman I spoke with.
He to like me remembers that all wooden aircraft and also believes it was of German origin.  Again neither one of us can put a name to it.
It is vexing, but will continue my quest.

I know the feeling well but don't lose hope. Sometimes it makes you doubt your own memory.

Wish I could find out the name of the tiny aircraft I saw at the International Air Pageant at Gatwick in 1949. At least Charlie confirmed that this event actually took place.

Although I was only 6 years old at the time I'm sure it was designed & built by the employees of a major US aircraft company in their spare time. I've never seen it mentioned since & everyone thinks I'm mad but I just know I didn't imagine it.

Well I have one gentleman who remembers the aeroplane and if he can't find the pictures he knows several other people that used to fly out of Maple.

He said he would contact them....this is a complete stranger Doug....Aviation is one of the things that brings people together just like this site.

Do you think the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) is very large in Germany.  Perhaps I could ask Bjorn (Silent Exploder) to do a quick check on it for me as I converse with him.  I speak no German at all.

Once I obtain a picture I will certainly post it.

Have not heard or had a reply here from anyone that would remember Maple and Kingcity Airports as they have been gone for some time now.

That is a site I have never heard of Doug  " PPrune".

Will certainly give it a try.

Gee I wish I could help a bit here, but I too am at a loss for the old shots I took in the mid-60's at Maple....I know for sure, I had some B/W's of a Ganagobie and something like a Wittman Tailwind, but may have been a Nesmith Cougar .....gonna have a look, but I think the shots in question for me, are back in Ont......

Hey Rifleman:

The aircraft sat in the second row facing Major McKenzie Road (Drive) not sure which.

It was about half way down the row between the office and the North South Runway.

I am sure it was made of tongue and groove lumber, it looked very well built and had the engine mounted above the wing.  Can not remember whether it was a pusher or tractor.
I do know there were only two seats side by side with no bow hatch.
It had a tailwheel and was no larger than I think a Cessna 172.
It had to be there for at least three years that I can remember.

Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!
