Worthing at war

The local newspaper has just published some photos taken of my home town & the surrounding area during WWII. I wasn't born at the time most of these were taken but I was brought up in nearby Lancing. I was surprised to see the amount of bomb damage as Worthing was never the target of a concentrated air raid.

Unbelievable that in the last link number "War 67" that they would machine gun a school.   :-X

My grandfather grew those in his Edinburgh garden - my absolute favorites and I've never seen them over here.

The one thing that the destruction from Bombing created, was to destroy many of the dismal, damp, cold, poorly constructed buildings left over from centuries beforehand, and encouraged the construction of many of the modern buildings we see today in our Towns and Cities!

I see a vast difference to all the buildings in, and around my Town since the 1930's and 1940's.
The modern construction explosion following WW II led to the demolition of all the old, falling-apart, out-of-date buildings...and brightened the whole area up, to what it is today!... ...!

Parts of London (and my Town) were awful, pre 1950!... ...!
