Ides of November Past

Postby H » Fri Nov 14, 2008 3:02 am

In a realization that not all is bad in November, I just thought I'd note a tiny portion of the history of the date, November 13, soon to end in the Pacific:

1775     The Continental Army (U.S. Revolution) captured Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
1789     The phrase, "Nothing [is] certain except death and taxes," was coined by Ben Franklin.
1971     Mariner 9 set orbit around Mars.
1982     The Vietnam Memorial was dedicated in Washington, D.C..

... Oh, according to the birth certificate, the ides of November was also the date on which I was born; "a dread day in November, when the searing cold does start..."
