At the risk of reopening a thread that should have been long dead

I can't say I disagree with that but at 7 8 pages, almost 900 views & counting it's still going strong. This just proves that after over 35 years a historical event still interests people enough to feel passionately about it. I knew my own views could be controversial but had no idea of quite how strongly some people feel about this subject. I've simply stated how I & many others saw it at the time, when all this was happening. We did not have all the facts that are available now but believe it or not we followed it all closely & discussed it at great length. These discussions were obviously based on what we did know or had been told. Whether it was true or not, we believed that the Soviets were by no means beaten & it was even suggested that if those Apollo 11 astronauts had been stranded on the Moon they could & would have launched a rescue mission. Of course, I realise now that would not have been possible but it's what we thought at the time. Just think what a triumph for the Soviets that would have been. ;)

I worked with some highly qualified & experienced aircraft engineers during the 1960s & they were by no means as stupid as some here would try & make out. Some people, including my late father-in-law, had even stronger opinions on this than me & I wouldn't dare repeat them here. :o ;)

This all started with me saying
I was never too convinced that everything I watched on TV at the time was genuine.

That's all I'm suggesting & I stand by it. Nobody will ever make me think otherwise so this might be as good a way to close this thread as any. ;)

I've recently tried to re-open the debate with my freind (the one I mentioned earlier who couldn't discuss it like an adult) and I have found this: It is a whole lot more fun to think that government lied to everyone and that there is some vast conspiracy than it is to look at the facts, history, artifacts or anything that might convince one otherwise. Wouldn't you rather say "Big Brothers at it again" than to say "wow, That is an amazing feat of engineering"? A lot of people would.  ::)
