Well the Falklands cease-fire officially started on this day in 1982. I remember it well as my cousin was a Royal Marine in 40 Commando fighting there.
So another little bit of history

Clean war indeed, no civilian casualties I think, is that correct?

Wasn't 40 Commando the unit which saw one of its Seargeants get a VC after he charged a machine gun nest all by himself?

What I won't ever understand is the point of doing the Vulcan bomb run. The logistics behind that operation are ridiculous

Are any of you American?

We are all glad you won the war and all and after recent events we're hardly ones to give military advice but we all thought you would give these God forsaken islands to the  Argentenians after a reasonable amount of time.  They have no conceivable mercantile, political or military positions.

Maybe it's in Queen Elizabeth's will.

But, as I said, I'm an American, and recent events involving my government do not leave me in a position to criticise yours.

The VC was won by Sgt. Ian McKay of 2 Para if I remember correctly, Colonel H. Jones of 2 Para also won a VC.

Apparently there's oil near the islands. Might be just another conspiracy theory though Fact of the matter is though, there's Britons living there who wish to remain British. Case closed in my eyes.

I suspect it was to send a subtle message. If so, it succeeded.

While any damage caused was more to Argentine morale than Argentine installations, the message sent to Buenos Aires - you are not out of range - was obviously one that was heeded, because many Argentine fighters were kept back from the Falklands to defend against a possible attack on Argentina.
