Ides of March aren't always bad

Postby Felix/FFDS » Tue Mar 15, 2005 1:14 pm

While for one J. Caesar this day was not the best of days, it also is the 99th anniversary of the establishment of one of the world's best know engineering/mechanical firms, responsible for not only the finest automobiles, but also the finest aero-engines throughout the history of aviation.

Curiously, the day is tied into the history of another firm that has had it's hand in both the automotive and aviation fields, and is now the owner (of not the name) of the firm above ... One of the component firms that later became this German firm was also established on a March 15.

Company 1 - Rolls-Royce

Company 2- BMW, and the firm established March 15 was formed by Ing. Otto (son of the German engineer for which the "Otto" thermodynamic cycle is named)

Very interesting coincidence. I might have read about it once but can't say I realised that.
