Secret Hush Hush

Postby Flt.Lt.Andrew » Thu Dec 02, 2004 9:59 pm

Hi everybody!

I've been doing some research on a relative in the RAAF and found that his unit was called 62 AC Wing. I can find nothing on no such unit....on the internet or the War Memorial site.
Can anybody help?

No, unfortunatly no.
It was an RAAF unit involved with to quote "landing, taking bits off Japanese aircraft then taking off again."

I found the answer!
He was involved in what seems to be a cross between Biggles and James Bond.
Apparently, what his unit would do is this.
Fly into Japanese controlled airfields (and by this I mean, the place is sprawling with Japs...excuse the abbreviation)  find the aeroplane(s) he had been breifed on, climb  into the cockpit and take the production plate.
This was done, so that the Intelligence bodies knew how many Jap aircraft there were (minimum number) and thus, which factories to bomb, (because apparently the plates say, "Made in Japan, Factory X"or whatever)
Apparently he was a good pilot...maybe thats where I get it from ;D
