In the 100yd x 100yd space they dug in. Sounds like they've had very limited digging time too due to local issues.

Several other sites though. Sadly the immediate "Spitfire dig FAILS!" stories in the press could kill any possibilities of further digs too. ::)

If they move the dig to another site do you think they might find some murky water? And need another bigger pump? Hmmm?

I saw a very good post on another forum earlier on, which made a very good point.

People will be very quick to knock the project, and particularly David Cundell.

Just as they did with...

This one...

Several of these (and their stablemates)

and

1940

1980ish

2012

:)

There are more examples too!

Thanks for the links C. I hope you all realized I was making fun of the media. The spit and the P40 series are my poster planes. And I hope they find some Spitfires. If they can get through the murky water..

I wasn't suggesting anyone on here was knocking them. :)

Just thought that it made an interesting comparison, and how the press could unwittingly kill a project very quickly.

I do hope that this is not the end of it all. Just one question, why have they not used ground penetrating radar....?

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

They have, AFAIK. :) As one of the things they've allegedly found this time is PSP (pierced steel planking), you'd have thought they might take that as a clue they could be in the right area - surely if anything was buried, and equipment used to bury them would need firm foundations.
