What ever happened to that?

Postby skoker » Fri Sep 03, 2010 11:47 am

In the 1990's I remember watching planes in Buffalo do no pushback turns at the gate, where instead of pushing back the plane the would just start up the engines, pull back the jet bridge, and do a quick sharp turn.  Does anyone else remember this or why they don't do this anymore? :-?

Rarely do aircraft do powered pushbacks anymore.  A lot of factors have gone into that, including efficiency and safety, not to mention not all aircraft are even permitted to do so.

They probably don't do that much because you stand a chance of puttting a wingtip into the retracted jetbridge, or the terminal.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.
