Dutch to install body scanners for US bound flights
So how long before this is a standard. The manufacturer must be thinking that Christmas and birthday have come all at once. Just am matter of time before the privacy advocates are left behind in the scrum to install these things.

2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

They have had these things for a while now. Testing them occasionally. Schiphol Airport will start using them on US flights within the next three weeks. Privacy shouldn't be an issue. No one can see you except a security officer in a remote room and then he/she can only see body contours and what ever you are hiding. I don't think there will be any YouTube videos of my willy if I pass through there...

And what about the issues with doing this with children? Are they going to 'offer training' to stop any concerns with that?

I don't like the idea, but that's only because I got stopped 3 times in 2 airports for, well, absolutely nothing. I don't want to get a body scan when there's nothing 'risky' about me, I just want to go on holiday. It's the age old problem... Stop the bad people, not everyone. But that is what this system does. So I guess I'll put up with it if it helps... I don't like flying because of the risks that other people have on the aircraft. Hopefully this will stop that and I can fly easier.

I don't see the problem with children. Like I said, no one can see the images except a security officer in an isolated, remote room. He/she can not see you, only body contours and what you are hiding underneath your clothes. There will be no videorecordings or pictures taken. It would be a different matter if they had you and everybody else strip naked at the gate.

Unfortunately, not everyone thinks that way and there are probably some people who are protective of their children being seen on CCTV yet alone a body scanner. So it will just be down to assuring those people. It wouldn't be completely secure unless everyone gets checked, and even then, they will find a way past security somehow.

I for one don't have a problem with the technology.  It is not like the screener can put a name or face to the image on the screen.  The program does not have the ability to save an image, it can only show what is in the screening machine.  There would be restrictions in place to prevent the screeners from using any type of camera to save a screenshot.  They have further developed this technology to enhance privacy.  The first of the machines were very revealing, now they use a generic body form on the screen and the machine shows any objects on that generic form.

I wonder what one of these scanners would have made of me smuggling in Hungarian kolbasz sausages in my trousers.... a man with 6 horse sized winkies in one pair of undies :o ;D ;D ;D

Sounds like a new entry in the Guiness Record Book or maybe Ripley's Believe it or not.

Unfortunately, It will be only a matter of time before someone manages to copy these images with something before your willy does end up on the WWW. The only saving grace is that from the images I have seem, it would appear rather difficult to ID someone.......Unless your a celebrity and your are actually named......Here is Pamela, wow look at the plastic in those ;D

I don't think it's a big deal... they've been revealing embarrassing things in luggage with X-rays for decades; nobody's life has been ruined by that AFAIK.

As I've said, the person operating the equipment has zero contact with the person being screened.  The images are indistinct enough, you would not be able to ID someone from a scan photo.  Even if scan photos make it on the internet, the claims of who they are of would be impossible to prove, so what is the point.
