Red Arrows first female display pilot

No announcement on the Reds' home page but found this link in the Norwich Evening News of all places...

here

I'm wondering if the newspaper has jumped the gun. I knew she was in the running for the job but as it's not on the Red Arrow's official page i'm not sure that it's true yet.

Well time will tell. But hey if she is good enough to qualify then I'll be happy to see her fly! Mind you she'll have to do a fair bit to beat certain "wing walkers" that Doug and myself are fans of ;) ;D

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

Don't think it's jumping the gun....the news is on the RAF website - http://www.raf.mod.uk/news/archive.cfm? ... 73F1C8F84A

Congratulations to her :)

The Thunderbirds have had 2 female pilots so far, the last in 2007, so why not the Red Arrows?

Congrats to her!!

"Purely based on merit"

If they don't make the grade, they aren't considered. So nothing against the idea... Just few to date have been elegible and even fewer good enough to join.

So long as the flying is good, I don't think it really matters who is flying it. Both newbies will be good at it because of their long time with the aircraft they will be flying with the reds.

Flying, even that kind of flying, has proved to be a great equalizer... even if the world's militaries have been slow to accept it. No reason at all why gender should affect one's ability to fly anything.
