Passenger lands aircraft

Just read that a passenger landed a King Air in Fort Myers Florida after the pilot died.  Wonder if he was a flight sim pilot?

He must've had some kind of experience, or at least excellent guiding when he did it.

I halfway expected it to say, "Well, I've flown this plane in FS over 100 times before!"

You know what's interesting about that idea ? The main problem facing a PPL pilot here, would be dealing with the turbine lag. Assuming he's a fundementally sound pilot.. nailing speeds and flying a survivable (albeit it ugly), approach wouldn't be that difficult.. and flying turbines AND piston planes in MSFS, would indeed have given him at least an idea of the lag. Just having the ATC tell hime to compensate for it is one thing..  MSFS experience would definately help..  8-)

After 10+ Years of regularly Sim-flying Piston Props, Twins and Singles, it took me AGES to get used to the slow wind-up, and wind down, of PT-6 Turbine engines, (King Air etc) when taxiing, taking off, and landing...and STOPPING!.... ...!

It takes a lot of preparation to obtain, and maintain, the correct speeds!

A familiarity with the contents of the Aircraft Owners Manual is vital...!

...which is one of the reasons why I still prefer my trusty Beech Baron 58 Piston-Prop Twin... ...!

Wow, that must feel terrible, being midair and your pilot suddenly drops dead.. I would be scared *beep*less.

Imagine what would happened if noone on board could steer the aircraft..

Also, I wonder why the pilot just died? Some sort of sickness?

The one thing I constantly have to remind myself...

...the flimsy Nose-Wheel is for Taxiing only....

...NOT for landing on!... ...!

I takes a lot of practice, sim and real, to land on the Main wheels only!

A heavy landing on the Nose-Wheel will collapse it, with dire consequences... ...!

Not easy, in a real-life, emergency situation!

I heard on an MSNBC video that it was a heart attack.


Also wouldn't there be footage of the landing? I mean they knew before it was gunna land I wonder how come it wasn't taken on tape. :-?
