Aviation Cool Wall

Postby specter177 » Thu Apr 02, 2009 6:44 pm

You know how Top Gear has a "Cool Wall?" Well, I thought it would be fun to do a aviation Cool Wall. The categories are "Seriously Un-Cool," "Un-Cool," "Cool," and "Sub Zero." I would like you to post to airplanes and where you think they should go on the wall, and then I will assign it to where I think it should go, just like Jeremy Clarkson!

Put the Cessna 400 in the cool category.  Fixed gear, single engine, and it outruns anything else

Obviously need the SR-71 and F-22A on the "Cool" category... Maybe even Sub-Zero for the SR-71!

The X-15 deserves Sub Zero... That baby flew into Space! It's pretty dang cold up there from what I've been told

No real characterizations. If it looks good, that points in the direction of coolness, along with it's "awesome" factor.  :)

Can I vote the Super Guppy into the " SeriouslyUncool" category as well? Ugly, UGLYYY plane!

What?! The Super Guppy may be super ugly, but it's still cool. I mean, how many airplanes can do this:

Sideways opening nose? Cool.

I would also like to vote the PBY Catalina as cool.

X15 isn't cool at all.....it's noisy, extravagant and unreliable....Kristin Scott Thomas certainly wouldn't get in it.....

seems some of you have no idea how the cool wall works lol.
Ugly doesn't make it uncool and being the best doesn't make it cool.  ;) :)

French.

Using Craig's argument above (and he's quite right), things such as the F22 and P51 tread a fine line. The F22 is the one that all the geeky schoolkids like, the same for the Eurofighter, so sorry, seriously uncool, as is Dave (F-35). Same argument for the 737. All it's done are ensure that the east coast of Spain will never be the same again, and has helped spread the drunken British tourist across Europe and the med. Same for the 747. Before that came along, only posh people could afford transatlantic air travel, now everyman and his dog can pop over - and why, when adding a stair case, did they only put room for about 2 people upstairs?

F-104. That's cool, as is the EE Lightning, and the P-38 to be fair. The Spitfire would suffer like the P-51, but the Hurricane with it's quiet quirkiness would be on the right.

How uncool.

[all above comments are tongue in cheek, and no offence should be taken. Well, not much, anyway!) :D
