Touch of irony  :-/ Surviving, then died whilst rescued.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

I don't like to post bad news, but the irony of this story blew my mind

Whoever was in charge of a rescue helicopter with faulty and/or inadequate rescue equipment is a moron... ::)

True Andrew, but sometimes stuff breaks at the most inopportune moments no matter how much preparation, inspections or checks are carried out. Sh#t happens would be rather a hard way of putting it, but unfortunately sometimes it does.

Sounds chillingly like the Kevin Costner movie "The Guardian". Very unpleasant. It isn't the most pleasant of things normally anyway, with just a strop under your shoulders, and no physical attachment.

Something similar has happend in my country not long ago.
A man was hit by a mine (he entered an area that has warning signs about it) and got injured, and after the rescue helicopters got him up he fell (from about 20/30 meters).
Sad :-X ...
