Air Force - The beggining of my Journey

Postby flavio » Thu Nov 13, 2008 7:11 pm

Hey guys,

Im pretty new here, but I thought you guys are the right crowd to give the news first, even before my parents, im gonna hold out on them for a while:

Im taking the AFOQT and TBAS, and will muster up a few bucks to get my PPL by early next year.

I will be applying to the Air Force OTS (Officer Training School) and hopefully will land a pilot slot at UPT (USAF Pilot Training)

Hopefully, in 2/3 years, I'll be flying a real jet. Its not going to be easy, but Im going to put 110% of everything I got into it. Who knows, maybe in a couple years, you guys can have an Air Force F-16 pilot posting in these boards.

Wish me luck, and more important than anything else, I will be proud to serve my country!

Props to you for wanting to flying the F-16, most people that come in always say they want to fly the F-15. With any luck you should be able to get on the F-35A shortly after your F-16 training if it goes well.

Yea I really do love the F-16. As of right now, I just hope I get my OTS spot, and if I do, that I do amazing at UPT so I can choose my plane (track, i guess).

Getting the lightning in the future would be great, ill let you guys know how its going.

Heh, good luck, and if you're ever coming into Austin, TX, tell me!

With all the AFB's you guys got down there, I don't doubt it!

Good luck, and may the force be with you.  ;)

Congratulations and good luck!

It can be a long and rough road, but it's worth it.  The most important thing is to do your best and play lot's of video games before the TBAS. ;)

Which board are you applying to?

im sure you already know this, but i'll throw it out there anyhow.

90% of the process is about attitude, study up on the AFOQT and do well on it too .  ;)

good luck!

Wont be having much time to check the internet the next couple weeks, but its cool to see people support this, even if on an internet forum.

Because when i broke it out to my friends, some that already knew me really well werent surprised at all and were like: thats what you shouldve been doing a long time ago, it really fits you well, others were like: dude, its better to be a living coward then a dead hero, needless to say how disappointed I am at those people, 1st for the primary meaning of the phrase, second, that they have no clue what being a pilot is even remotely like. And some literally tried to duck tape me to a chair and stuff me in my closet LOL, didnt work either. They were joking around though, and one of them is getting her aunt who was a high up naval officer to meet me and write a rec. letter, so I got their support too.

I think the best thing so far is that none of them put it beyond me to make it, no one's rxn was: dude its impossible, its really hard, i dont mean to burst your bubble kind of thing. They all know what Im made of, and how hard i work towards things i want.

Shit, im thinking I should start a blog about this whole process, what do you guys think?

Now gotta see what the fam will say, theyre support would definately help, i dont think theyll be too surprised given that aviation/fighter stuff is all i talk about at home haha.

as much as i like the hercs, and if it came down to driving one, or not driving anything at all, I would take it in a heartbeat. But if given the option F-16 - Herc, I think you know what I'd take

Quite. It's an easy choice. The in flight catering, legroom, and toilet (restroom) means the 130 wins hands down.

I beg to differ.... ;D

I have ridden in the back of a C-130 several times, and they were all hands down, THE MOST miserable flights I've ever been on.... ;D

The C-17 on the other hand, was quite nice.... 8-)
