Iran fly over

If i was in a American registered business jet,leaving Moscow for oh,"Dubai"The shortest route would be a direct flight over Iran,does this happen in real life?Can you get permission to fly over?Or would it be better to fly southwest over Turkey across Saudi Arabia.

I would imagine that the jet would usually take the alternate route over Turkey and the others, due to the political situation between the US and Iran, although I obviously can't confirm this.

Probably far easier to get routed through the Ukraine, Turkey and (the mainly US ATC in) Iraq, then down the airways of the Arabian gulf.

"Accidental" is probably the wrong word (you can't accidentally launch a SAM ). "Misidentification of a potential target" probably is a more accurate description.
