3rd flight

today was a fun flight i got to fly in Aspen Flying Clubs resident ugly C172 (its some tan blue and red mix just dosent look right) but she flys great, the taxi was to Runway 10, whitch is the alternate runway (17L,17R,35R and 35L are the mains) and this was a short taxi but we had to go through the GA hanger taxi ways (next to all the sheds) because the taxiway parrallel to 10-28 was closed for parking (rich congressman and senators parking their Gulfstreams there during the DNC) after that we headed towards the somewhat rural parker area, we must have worked on Steep Turns for about 30 minutes (about 9 total) this was also a rectangle apttern so that goes down in my student record. After that I thought we where doing slow flight and stalls (no stalls geuss thats later on) slow flight is pretty fun (my only dislike of it was knowing when to mess with the flaps) after all that we headed back towards Centennial entered the pattern (pattern directon changed so we had to go over the airport) then we must of spent 5 minutes earching for another C172 about 1000 feet under us, after that a nice touch and go and another time around to a full stop landing and taxi back to parking. In front of the fligth clubs building where 2 big Siskorski (i think) choopers, guess they where here to do something involving the DNC

Sounds like it was a productive lesson.
I know what you mean about deploying flaps when setting up to practice MCA... but other than making sure you're below the max flap speed before setting that first notch, you can just do it intuitively... get the first notch down, re-trim and let it settle in, then go for the next, etc.
Be sure to ask your instructor to "do it with you" once; let him call each notch of flaps. That should help you get a feel for it.
Just remember that if your goal is to slow down to MCA ASAP, get that first notch down as soon as you're below the safe speed. If you ever forget that specific speed, a good rule of thumb is as soon as you're in the white arc. That will be a bit slower than the "book" Vfe, but it's guaranteed to be safe in any airplane with a white arc on the aispeed indicator.

next lesson should be fun, I have to memorize 5 or 6 emergency procedures for engine fires on the C172 (have a month before next lesson so i have time)
