UK NOTAM's

Postby Cobra » Thu Aug 14, 2008 1:44 pm

How exactly do you check NOTAM's in the UK? Going flying tomorrow and I just need them for the local area around EGHH? Last few flights i've been a little bad and not checked, but with this air festival thing theres a lot of wierd goings on in the area ! Don't want to end up bumping into the red arrows!

Whatever I search for i just seem to get all the NOTAM's for the entire country? Tried doing a route brief from EGHH to a nearby airport and that doesnt work? Would try an Area Brief but it asks for a FIR code and i don't know how to find that out?

Help greatly appreciated  :D

Hello mate. :)

I take it you've tried AIS? http://www.nats-uk.ead-it.com/public/index.php%3Foption=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=166&Itemid=4.html

I've just registered and tried a simple route from Bournemouth to Brize, nominating Lyneham as a diversion. All worked fine. You register, put in your route and times, and hey presto - they're there to print out for you.

As for FIR, I doubt you are goin outside London (London FIR - EGTT), unless you're going to France or Scotland (Scottish FIR - EGPX). :) For reference, if you can track one down, the RAF preduces a very nice annual yellow book called the "Flight Information Handbook", and another excellent one called the "BINA" (En Route Supplement, British Isles and North Atlantic) which you can buy from 1 AIDU. :)

Hi Cobra. The Bournemouth Air Festival isn't for a couple of weeks yet if that's what you're worried about. http://www.bournemouthair.co.uk/

It's the Airbourne event at Eastbourne this week.

Cool, thanks guys. Don't know what I was doing wrong before, but it works when I try it your way Charlie!  :)

Though the festival isnt for a few weeks I think they may be doing some training there before hand? Was doing preflights a few weeks ago and 9 red arrows cruised by on the taxiway ... ! In retrospect though that was probabaly to do with a another display they did locally! Oh well, all was fine anyway!

Thanks again for the help guys!
