Ozzy's dream come true

Postby Papa9571 » Wed Jul 23, 2008 1:47 am

Avaiation's top 100 list has been released and the Merlin engine took the 5th spot. In 6th is the Supermarine Spitfire, the top military aircraft in the list. Quite an honor when you think of all the aircraft it was in competition with.

Concorde took the 4th spot, the Wright brothers took 3rd, the 747 took 2nd, and in 1st is the Apollo 11 moon flight.

The closest mimitary aircraft to the Spitfire on the list is the SR-71 which came in 10th.

The list can be found at http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/20 ... ealed.html

The P-51 came in 16th, 1 spot behind the C-130.

Nice to see Sir Frank in the top 10 too. :) Trent as well, two RR products in the top ten. :) Good to see they made a sensible decision about the B-17 and Lancaster, which are virtually adjacent, although not good for an aviation site to list an "ME109"... Poor standards.
