I'm starting My Flight Training

Postby Ravang » Tue Jun 03, 2008 7:57 am

Well, its about time, I would have started last summer but due to the FAA age requirements I choose to wait until this summer. And the best part my first 10 hours cost me $0, thats right free, my friend donated his C150 (the same one I've been flying for the past year) and an instructor at the airport said he'd give me my first 10 hours of training for free. :D i can't wait! ;D

You will really apreciate those ten hours once you start paying for it yourself. Avgas is five and a half dollars here.... :o

But don't let that discourage you. Have fun.... 8-)

I do have to pay for fuel but the C150 has been modified to run off a mix of 80% auto fuel, and 20% av fuel, so at the moment auto fuel is cheaper than av fuel (for now) :o ;)

Good deal. :)

Just started looking at getting my PPL; I nearly did a couple of years ago. Last week I passed 500hr total time so I figured now could be a good time. Still going to cost me about

Beware of "mogas"... most of it now has more ethanol than you'd want for aviation ops.

You might hear a lot of talk about alcohol damaging the engine seals, etc... but the real hazard is the fact that alcohol bonds very well with water, making it harder to tell if you have water in your fuel by the usual methods. And the likelihood that water will condense in the tanks increases because of the alcohol.

A mix is smart, but I'd go 50/50 as opposed to 80/20, at least (from what I've heard).
