Very unfortunate and my thoughts go out to the families!

My newspaper though.... after the spectacular break op of the 747 in Zaventem into two pieces only informed me this morning that this one had broken into three pieces! No info on casualties just the three pieces!  Idiots

...add to that, unfavorable weather conditions, and you have a sure-fire recipe for disaster.

...why are airports built in these dangerous surroundings, I ask myself?

Well it's possible that the original airport was built years ago when you didn't have extremely large and fast jets trying to land.   ::)

mostly Financial reasons i guess. Take Heathrow for example, which very often suffers from problems with fog and low vis - cheaper land, some(although none if the protestors get their way) space to expand. If it was anywhere else it would struggle to be called Londons airport.

Bristol - my local - was deliberately built where it was because it was prone to bad weather - fog especially -  so the RAF could use it for Pilot training in bad weather. So there is sometimes logic in the illogical placing of airports!
