Whether or not cars get carried as freight though is different to the Car Ferry operations where the routes and aircraft were specific to the carriage of cars and passengers

Only passengers accompaning a vehicle were permitted and those without could not travel

Silver City realised that a vehicle could include bicycles so they had a small number of bike so that anyone without a car could 'hire' these bikes for a very small fee

That became their vehicle and it was wheeled on to the Bristol Freighter and off again at the other end without the passenger even seeing it....but it had been hired by them and was paid for so it was their vehicle and so got around the regulation. :D
