The airshow season is upon us...

Postby C » Mon Apr 28, 2008 7:55 am

First proper shows of the year this weekend, at Abingdon (my local show) and (God's own airfield - hence the one I shall be attending) Old Warden.

Old Warden, as Doug and Craig will back me up, is well worth attending. No where else like it in the world.

Here's the programme for Sunday; notable visitors include Peter Teichmann's P40, the F86A from Duxford, and one of the BBMF Spitfires. Other highlights include the Comet, which is now back in taxying condition (75th anniversary of the MacRobertson air race next year too), the recently re-restored SE5a and some of the oldest orginal flying aircraft in the world (orginal's below in bold). :)

I hope to be at Popham (Saturday & Monday) & Old Warden (Sunday) next weekend. Two of my favourite places on the planet. 8-)

Now all we need is some decent weather.

Wish I could be there, but where I live it's a nightmare to get anywhere without paying stupidly expensive train fares! I'll hopefully make it to one or two OW shows this year though.  :)

Have fun.  ;)

If I'm not doing my Duke of Edinburgh on that weekend, I might go to the Cosford airshow.

In the summer my ATC squadron is thinking of going to Waddington. (the camp there in February was great and we want to go back to their AB)

I just got the RAF Altitude magazine, it has a calender of April 08 to March 09 including airshow and sports events... shall have to see what things I can make.

I really wish I had the money to be there but sadly I'm broke. So it'll have to be either the summer or autumn show. :'(

I may try to convince the family of the need for a day out on Sunday.

Craig, if I achieve the improbable then there's a seat in the car, although you'd need to supply your own ear-plugs  :o ;)

Hi Steve thank you for the offer, but my dads now due to come down on sunday so it's probably still a no go. We'll see how it plays out.

No problem mate, I wouldn't wish my kids on anyone. I love them to bits, but they're mine.....they should not be inflicted on anyone who doesn't bear some responsibility  ;D

Have a good day, I'll probably end up mowing the lawn or cleaning the bathrooms anyway  ::)  ;)

Looks like this weekend might be a bit of a damp squib. Typical Bank Holiday weather. Just in case anyone was thinking of going, the Microlight Fair at Popham has been postponed until August due to the airfield being waterlogged. http://www.popham-airfield.co.uk/

Very disappointing as I was looking forward to it. :( I'm not confident that Old Warden will be any better on Sunday. I might ring them tomorrow to check the condition of the airfield.

RAF Kemble is closest? to me, but with the prices they charge, we will give it a miss...

...as usual...;)...!

The occasional Air Show/Air Race, etc, at my local Airfield, (EGBS Shobdon) is the only one I regularly attend... :),,,!

...
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

The one the day weather doesn't look too bad - a couple of light showers in an otherwise good day. If I hear anything about the state of the airfield I'll let you know (and vice versa please Doug!).
