DC3 Goodbye tour (UK)

Due to the change in rules coming into affect on the 17th July this year the DC3 can't take passengers without major mods, these have been deemed uneconomical, so the DC3 is going on a goodbye tour .
I have managed to get a seat on a flight from Leeds-Bradford on July 11th I just hope the weather is nice. It's a shame that the power that be can stop peoples enjoyment like this.

Blame the EU bureaucrats. Also the British authorities for slavishly complying with every stupid regulation they dream up.

Ju-air too.

Maybe they aren't affected in the same way - I believe the problem with the DC-3 partly being the pax door is about 10mm to high (the Ju52 seems to sit a little lower), and hence needs a slide.

Interior lighting and a lockable crew door are probably minor compared to the engineering of an escape slide.

Anyway, all being well, a solution may be found/negotiated, and hundreds more people will enjoy pleasure flights in DC-3s in the long term.

the DDA(Dutch Dakota Association) used to fly a DC-3 around this area in this time of the year to show the flower fields from the air, but i havent seen or heard anything about this this year, i wonder if they got struck down the rules to.

I know the aviodrome has a Constellation that they dont fly with because the insurance costs are to high, such a shame because it is a beautifull aircraft.

Sadly 9/11 hit the operation of large historic aircraft disproportionately hard, and a number of aircraft have been grounded both temporarily or permanently because of rising costs.

Didn't someone in the US suggest sawing the wings of all warbirds, in case they got into the wrong hands.

Thankfully common sense prevailed - if that was in Europe they'd do it, then retrospectively look at the decision.

I'd rather live a fun life then a safe live, and really, you cant stop anyone from doing you harm unless you lock yourself up in a iron lead coffin and burry yourself 10 feet under.

Both as an aeronautical engineer to be and a DC3 nut I'd kind of like to see if theres ANY logic behind this!

Pity, hopefully it doesn't catch on in the us, I still havent flown on a Dak!

There's very little logic in many European regulations.
