Cockpit/Flightdeck

Postby drummer_tom » Tue Apr 08, 2008 5:02 pm

Last question I promise! I am just getting so fascinated by all aviation!

I was watching the UK TV series Airline, and the first officer said that now they are encouraged/persuaded/told to call it the "Flight Deck" instead of a "Cockpit".

Anyone know why?

Probably because some people might misguidedly find the word cockpit offensive.

A cockpit is actually the ring used in the "sport" of cockfighting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cockfight

Maybe "cockpit" sounds a bit "obscene" for television I would think..

Any other ideas?

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.
