First crewmember flight in a jet!!!!

Postby Aerophile » Wed Mar 12, 2008 8:22 pm

I got a call from a friend at a local FBO this afternoon asking if I could sit right seat in a CJ this weekend.  after 1600 or so hours in pistons, this is going to be a blast!  Pics to follow in the photo forum as long as I don't forget the camera.

i remember my first flight in the citation... had about 800 hours i guess.

it went like this.

"positive rate, gear up"

i selected gear up even though my arse was stll sittin on the numbers

about 4 seconds later i hear "ok clearing 3,000 feet, climb check list"

i think i finished the climb check list between 12 and 15 thousand feet ;D

somehow...

... with my arse still sitting on the numbers

thankfully after a hand full of flights i was all caught up and the idea of reaching the flight levels in a matter of about 5 minutes was nothing much at all  ;)

enjoy it!

I dunno... how much fun could that be? Too quiet, and you can't stick your elbow out the window in flight.

;)

BTW... DON'T FORGET THE CAMERA.

You make a fine point.  ;D It might be a bit too cold up there to do that anyway.  Not to mention cabin pressurization might be a little difficult.  I do miss just hopping in a 152, hanging my arm out the window, and just going somewhere to get a hamburger.  There's a great place in College Station, TX called Freebirds where you can get what they call a  monster burrito and it's about the size of a rolled up newspaper.  I haven't been there in a while. ... sigh

Sounds similar to my first flight in the KingAir.  Even though I knew better, it took a few tries to get used to saying "flight level" and "one fife thousand" as most of the flying I do is below 10,000 feet.  Hopefully I won't be too far behind though since I've been in the flight levels before.  I should only be behind the jet.  :D
