A 25knot wind-shear (which could amount to a net 50kias loss) for plane at ~150kias, and already descending, is about the only way (outside of catostrophic airframe failure) an experienced crew could put a 777

I guess it depends on the direction of flight.  Do B777s have backup warning beepers like trucks?

BA are pleased with the pilots so it obviously isn't a pilot error. As someone pointed out to come in and land THAT short would have been noticed way in advance and corrected. They only just cleared the road and the airport perimeter fence. :-/

Latest reports on BBC News 24 say the pilot lost all power and avionics and had to glide the plane in...

This however was an "off the record" report from an anonymous tow truck driver who said he'd spoke to the captain after the incident.

That'll be 100% accurate then I expect...

And it was on the BBC....

concurs, got back from school and saw this. I had to read the headline twice to double check i had read it right. If the reports are correct, the pilots certainly deserve some serious recognition for what they did. I know they train for it, but you can never fully train for such an incident!

BTW, that isnt where the gear should end up!!!
