I got the Job!

Postby Aerophile » Fri Nov 30, 2007 10:53 am

I interviewed with ExpressJet Airlines on Tuesday and was offered a job!  They're putting all new hires into a pool right now and likely won't have class date until Feb.  For now I'll continue instructing and studying flows until I get the call.  I can't wait to start though!

you have probably made the right choice... over the past year there was a temporary surge of captain vacancy bids which gave a lot of us a glimmer of hope that the upgrade times were projected to hit 4 years. but just as soon as those massive vacancy bids arrived, they were gone.

most junior captain at Eagle as of this month was hired in Feb (?) of 2000... thats over 7 years and 9 months to hold a captain seat.

secondly, just Wednesday, it was announced that American Airlines would be selling American Eagle some time in the first half of 2008 or sooner.

there are some who say this will be a lateral move for Eagle pilots, and if transferred to another ALPA carrier we will get carried over to the seniority list by Date of hire which makes for a lot of captain seats (maybe)

there are others who say we will lose a lot of our pilot force to the street as the only way anyone can afford to purchase the EGL assets would be for the fleet to be cannibalized to various carriers.

so for now, we are along for the ride.  :-/

Wow!  Congrats!  Now, you will keep us all informed and updated on how things are going so those of less fortunate folk who are ground-bound can live vicariously through you, right?  ;) ;D

Yeah I heard about that.  I haven't read much about it other than what AMR put on the webiste...
AMR Corporation Plans To Divest American Eagle  I'd like to know what my friends going through training right now think about the whole thing.  He heard rumors that XJT might not work out after a few years since they've started branded flying and load percentages are barely break even and that's why he went to eagle was for "job security".  I wonder what he thinks now and what they're telling them in training.  :-/

knucklehead... another option is that AMR plans to use this as a bargaining chip in the upcoming negotiations even though they may have no real intent to sell the assets at all.  ::)

play the American guys against the eagle guys somehow.

divide and conquer so to speak. lets face it, with the pilot shortage, airline management these days does not have a lot of bargaining power, and they all know it.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.
