A Thai air force pilot has been suspended after allegedly landing his helicopter in the jungle to collect wild mushrooms for his mother, an official said today.

The pilot was suspended from flying duties after villagers in the western province of Kanchanaburi reported the incident to police, an airforce spokesman said.

"The pilot will face punishment for abandoning his helicopter without anyone to look after it and also for violating other rules," he added.

Villagers said a helicopter had circled a jungle clearing on Wednesday before landing, and when some of them went to investigate, they found the pilot had gone.

When he eventually returned, he said he had been collecting mushrooms for his mother.

This is nothing new. Collecting mushrooms used to be a regular pastime for RAF pilots in the 1930's.

He probably considered the punishment from his mom if he did not pick mushrooms worse than the military punishment if he did pick the mushrooms.

I do not see anything wrong with what he did.      

Hell when the beer strike was on here back in the 60's I flew a xxxxxxxx aircraft into another province to pick up beer for the xxxxxxxx.
