F15's Grounded

This puts a small spanner in the air over Afghanistan

F15's Grounded

Matt

Edit. Will this end up being a world wide grounding; Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Japan ??

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

I just read Japan is grounding their fleet too.  What a major hurt for the world's air forces.

It shouldn't last too long. IMHO I think this is just a political move to cover everyone's a**s while USAF figures out what happened in Missouri.... I'll bet it wasn't McDonnel-Douglase's fault, just probably poor maintenence....

Shouldn't last too long. If it is an age related/fatigue issue then the E's will be back in the air very quickly (once the source of the problem is identified), and it probably won't take too long to run the relevant checks on the older models...

Just probably a poor remark from someone who does not really have a clue. Whether it is one mans heart you hold in your hand for 200+ hearts, every turn of every screw is ALWAYS in the the back of your mind >:(
When you put your balls on the line for two too 1000+ people a day you would understand what I mean.

Whatever was the end result, I'm sure it will stem from a whole catalogue of small errors throughout the organisations in question, rather than any simple single cause.

Or a "major" structural problem with the older jets in the fleet - hence two or more potentially completely seperate but very similar airframe losses, which until they happen (more than once), no one may know about (such as happened with the Comet, but on a larger, more serious scale).

This should not effect the "E" models, as they are built with beefed up frames any way, while the "C's" like the artical said are the older ones and go through way more high G stuff then the E's do.

I'll ask my supervisor at work to night, he used to work on the E's and S's.

Wondering if it isn't some form of undetectible deterioration of composite components. Does anybody really know what the service life is? Remember, the ANG flies the AF's old hand-me-downs.

what? I'm sorry if i offended you, but I don't think I said anything too contreversial?!  It was just my opionon and guess as to what happened. Please elaborate if you are mad at me so I don't do it again, and again sorry if i said something wrong.....  :-/ :-/

Offended, no, (just caught me after the second double engine change this week, so tired and somewhat pissed off) but lets blame the maintenance always seems to be the first thing that is said. Ironically, 9.9 times out of 10 it is something else, but we get the finger point from the get go.

I imagine that the erks dealing with the F15's in question are already beating themselves up enough before the problems have been properly investigated, no point in us pouring on our ill-informed assumptions.
Steve

To that I can attest. In a previous life, I was the last guy to "spanner" on two fighters (separate incidents) that ended up as smoking holes in the ground (one fatal, pilot error and one not, lost avoiding a midair). To say that they are beating themselves up is a minor understatement. Sh#iting house bricks is more like it. Not only that, but not that many people want to talk to you either, just in case your un-luck rubs off.
